What exactly is an O.E.M. inkjet cartridge?
O.E.M. stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. These are the “brand” name products you find at most computer stores and they are the most expensive cartridges you can buy. They are made by or for a manufacturer (HP, Epson, Lexmark, Canon, etc.); but a “brand” name on the cartridge does not guarantee that HP, Epson, etc. manufactured it. The cartridge may be manufactured by a company you’ve never heard of but is licensed by the manufacturer to produce the product. O.E.M. cartridges cost about twice the price of a remanufactured or compatible cartridge but they are not necessarily better quality.

What is a remanufactured inkjet cartridge?
A “remanufactured” cartridge is an original O.E.M. cartridge that has run out of ink and is recycled and reprocessed to work like new. Reprocessing involves inspection, cleaning, replacing any worn parts, refilling with a more generous supply of ink than the original O.E.M, pressurizing, and testing rigorously to assure it functions as well, if not better, that the original O.E.M. cartridge. Buying less expensive remanufactured cartridges does not mean you are buying poor quality – it means you are saving money – lots of it!

What is a compatible inkjet cartridge?
Like the O.E.M cartridge, a “compatible”(also known as a ‘generic’) is a 100% brand new under stringent quality controls by a company other than the manufacturer of your equipment. Compatible cartridges are engineered to the highest standards of quality and reliability to meet or exceed those of the O.E.M. They are available at substantial savings and are virtually indistinguishable from the O.E.M.

Know Your Rights!
It is illegal for a printer manufacturer to require you to use or purchase a particular brand of product, just as it is illegal for your car dealer to require only original parts be used to fix your car. An Original Equipment Manufacturer (O.E.M.) cannot void your warranty unless they can conclusively prove that other brands will damage your machine. To enforce a policy such as this is in direct violation of the Sherman & Clayton Antitrust Act. To learn more click here.
